As long as he doesn't hit on me... 12-24-03

The time has finally come. I have not ranted on the new site in, like, decades. Until now. So what's my first topic going to be? Well, I stumbled into conversation about the whole gay marriage issue and that got me thinking about the gays in general.
Let's start with the marriage thing. I think the big hold up here is that the term "marriage" is thought of mostly as a religious experience. Since most religions condemn homosexuality (mostly because they're too hard-headed to understand the causes), I can see the conflict. But let's look at the basic premise of marriage. It is simply a vow to remain faithful to a person for eternity. Most marriages don't live up to the ideal anyway, but I digress. The problem is that married couples experience benefits that unmarried couples do not. Why shouldn't the gays be allowed some sort of legal union? Don't call them married. Call them something else, but there's no reason why a gay or lesbian couple should not be entitled to the same things as a straight couple.
How about the gays in the military? This has always baffled me. The anti-gay ignoramuses (ignorami?) yell and scream about gays in the military. I'm going to assume that the people who are against gays in the military would prefer that gays not exist at all. I don't think this is much of a stretch. So then, why wouldn't they want ALL gays to fight our wars? What better way to eliminate those evil homosexuals than to put them on the front line in Iraq? See, that would require some kind of functioning brain. These people don't have one of those.
Maybe they think a gay man in the army will sodomize all the straight guys in the army. Yeah, because that happens CONSTANTLY. All you ever hear about are sex-crazed homos running around and raping unsuspecting guys.
But really, I'm not surprised that the general population would be so inept at handling this sort of thing. Listen to how most guys (most of them probably suppressing homosexual feelings) react to the possibilty of a gay man approaching him. "I'd kick his ass!" "If some fag hit on me, I'd kill him!" Let's all applaud the idiot-speak. What would these guys do if every girl he hit on that wasn't interested chained him to a fence and beat him to death? That doesn't seem reasonable, does it?
But again, I don't expect people who feel that gays are the devil to understand logic. People fear what they don't understand and they reject what they can't comprehend. I'm no champion for gay rights, mainly because I won't speak for others (that, and I'm not big on activisim). But anybody should see that questioning gays in the military makes no sense. WHO CARES? If a guy hits on you and you're not gay, just tell him that.
If he persists, then kick his ass.
Happy holidays.
