Exercise in Futility

Strands of fire send sparks flying;
Cropped sienna engulfs conviction,
Torching the shield that entombs desire.

Sparkling gems lure the wayward;
Shining stars conceal sagacity;
Beams of viridity snare the prey.

Slate askew and revealing;
Horizontal stance invites play,
Punishing purity's righteousness.

Starving for a sandwich bite,
Poisoned the meat, caused visceral pain,
Muffled screams gagged with hands bound tightly.
